Surge Protection Device (SPD) Specification

3/13/2007 – ACData Solutions has been given the green light as the first Motorola 2005 R56 approved Surge Protection Device (SPD) manufacturer. Our revolutionary, patent-pending Surge Blox™ R56 Series has met or exceeded the updated Motorola R56 SPD specification in all respects. We are the first surge protection manufacturer in the world to design, manufacture, complete witness-testing by Motorola, and be given the 2005 R56 SPD approval from Motorola. The updated 2005 Motorola R56 specification has elevated the standard for AC surge suppression in the telecommunications industry.

To meet this challenge, ACData developed the innovative Surge Blox R56 Series, which will virtually eliminate blown SAD modules common in previous generations and provide the highest level of surge protection for cell site equipment. This design utilizes a patent-pending coordination technology where 50 kA of silicon avalanche diode (SAD) and 160 kA of metal oxide varistor (MOV) protection work together to withstand up to 160 kA surge without sacrificing the SAD modules. This surge current performance is attained while still taking advantage of the fast response and low let-through voltage of the SADs. The Surge Blox R56 Series is available in a variety of service voltages for single-phase and 3-phase applications, for both Type 1 and Type 2 protection.

Additionally, the Surge Blox R56 Series features a patented multi-stage, audio alarm coupling technology. The stackable, modular units are designed in a compact panel (15.5”x13.9”x6.3”) to save wall space in shelter sites. The Surge Blox design employs a patent-pending anti-arcing technology, preventing fire hazards at cell sites by stopping any flaming, glowing and charring material from escaping the surge protection device. Surge Blox R56 Series is UL Listed 1449 2nd Edition February 2007.
